Be afraid …
Writing is a solitary occupation and like many writers I welcome a reason to get out of the house, whether it is to a CWA conference, Crimefest, or a book launch. I am especially thrilled to be heading to Newcastle at the end of October to the wonderful Lit and Phil, to listen to one of my stories being read by a professional actor as part of The Border Readers live readings of ghost stories.
‘Teeth and Hair’ was published a couple of years ago in The New Abject: Tales of Modern Unease (Comma Press, 2022). I love a good ghost story, and it was a lot of fun writing this one. Young live-in nanny, Nell, is looking after eleven year old Polly over a long hot summer. Polly’s mother died the year before, but has she really gone …? .
The other stories on the bill are ‘The Canterville Ghost’ by Oscar Wilde and – a favourite of mine – ‘The Demon Lover’ by Elizabeth Bowen, so I am in illustrious company.
If you live in the north east and you fancy a fright and a good evening out, here is where you can find The Border Readers and how to buy a ticket for one of their performances.
